WBP shifts up a gear – news trail and shuttles
Warburton Bike Park shifted up a gear over the April 4 weekend with the launch of its newest trails and the long‑awaited shuttle service — and riders wasted no time putting both to the test.
Yarra Ranges Mayor Richard Higgins said the atmosphere across the weekend was electric.
“Everywhere you looked there were huge grins and riders absolutely buzzing after their first run. Locals, visitors, seasoned riders and first‑timers — everyone was out there discovering just how good these new trails are. Warburton Bike Park is fast cementing itself as one of Australia’s must‑ride mountain bike destinations,” Cr Higgins said.
The shuttle service proved an instant hit, booking out across Saturday, Sunday and the Monday public holiday. The new services ran smoothly with short wait times and overwhelmingly positive rider feedback. Many riders also pedaled using the new climbing trails, which were particularly popular with cross country and e-bike riders.
While shuttle demand is expected to stay high, services may be impacted by weather, please check trail conditions before booking.
“If you’re planning to hit the new trails for the first time— or coming back for more — make sure you book ahead. The shuttles are the quickest way to maximise your ride time,” Cr Higgins said.
Warburton Bike Park Ambassador World Champion Cross Country rider Paul van der Ploeg said the new trails were epic.
“Talking to riders experiencing the new trails for the first time was awesome. The green airflow trail ‘Warburtron’ was a crowd pleaser, with the challenging descent of ‘Warpij,’ and the jumps and berms of ‘Mad Max’ and ‘Captain Crayfish’ the talk of the shuttles.”
“A route I recommend to end the day on a high note is ‘3 Owls’ into ‘Warburtron’ down ‘Runaway Bride’ – Bridge Link – ending on the ‘The Riddler’ back into Warburton. 45min of fun, approachable flow trails. Fantastic way to end the day,” he said.
With the latest openings, Warburton Bike Park now offers more than 70 kilometres of purpose‑built trails and 650 metres of elevation — from flowy descents to technical challenges and everything in between. More trails will continue to roll out across the year, with the full 125‑kilometre Southern Network on track for completion in 2027.
