Friday-Sunday road management these school holidays

During the September school holidays (19 Sep – 4 Oct), the shuttle roads get a lot busier, so we’re taking steps to keep everyone safe.

The dirt roads leading to the summit of Mt Tugwell, including Mt Bride Road and Edwardstown Road, will be closed to all non-essential traffic during shuttle operating hours on the highest-demand days (Friday, Saturday & Sunday both weeks).

Access will be maintained for essential services, residents of the closed roads, current licensed tour operators and the official Warburton Bike Park shuttle service.

While our permit authorises road management across the entire holiday period, at this stage, we are planning to leave the road open Mon-Thurs and will close the shuttle road on the highest-demand days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday both weeks, 8:00am–5:00pm. We will continue to monitor traffic conditions and may close if needed.

Why this helps everyone:

1. Safer trail crossings – several descending trails cross these roads, so fewer vehicles means fewer close calls for riders and drivers
2. Safer for all traffic – our shuttles tow bike trailers on narrow gravel forest roads; less oncoming traffic makes it safer for all
3. Clear emergency access – if something happens on the mountain, response vehicles can get straight through
4. Less dust, congestion and conflict on the busiest days for everyone using the roads

Keeping everyone safe on a busy shared road these holidays is the whole reason behind this. If conditions require it, we may extend closures on other days.
